{"id":75,"date":"2018-01-25T10:52:46","date_gmt":"2018-01-25T14:22:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/?p=75"},"modified":"2018-01-25T10:55:49","modified_gmt":"2018-01-25T14:25:49","slug":"team-germany-planning-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/?p=75","title":{"rendered":"Team Germany Planning Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Germany is MUCH bigger than Ireland or Switzerland, so even bef<a href=\"http:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/12-summer-NEUSCHWANSTEIN0417.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-76 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/12-summer-NEUSCHWANSTEIN0417-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/12-summer-NEUSCHWANSTEIN0417-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/12-summer-NEUSCHWANSTEIN0417-768x480.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/12-summer-NEUSCHWANSTEIN0417-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/12-summer-NEUSCHWANSTEIN0417.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>ore the meeting our team really had their work cut out for them!\u00a0 How can we get the Germany experience in only a few short days on a limited budget?\u00a0 Well once again we had youth really step up to the challenge with a great presentation by Riley, and another one by Lex &amp; Scouter Erica.\u00a0 Armed with a detailed map of Germany and a map of the Europe Rail lines it was my job to figure out where everything is and how to work it in to our rail travel.\u00a0 All in all a busy night with a lot of exciting ideas.<\/p>\n<p>We started off with Baveria&#8217;s fairy tale castle,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QrJyeearNNk\">Neuschwanstein<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0Neuschwanstein was the inspiration behind Disney&#8217;s fairy tale castles in Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, and is truly a must see!\u00a0 Not far from\u00a0Neuschwanstein,\u00a0Riley and Lex&#8217;s presentation took us to M\u00fcnich, the capital of the stunning Bavarian province.\u00a0 Highlights in the capital include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aIqrUOZ-ppQ\">Linderhof Palace<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mmn-muenchen.de\/\">Museum Mensch und Natur<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=y1VDIyW70XA\">some incredible sights and amazing buildings<\/a>!\u00a0 A highlight for sure is the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deutsches-museum.de\/en\">Deutsches Museum<\/a>, which is the\u00a0largest science and technology museum in the world!<\/p>\n<p>Riley took us north to explore Berlin, the very famous capital city of Germany.\u00a0 Highlights in Berlin included the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yZ866HxCyHo\">Reichstag building<\/a> and area, and &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoo-berlin.de\/en\">Zoo Berlin<\/a>&#8220;, which is Germany\u2019s oldest zoological garden and home to the world\u2019s largest variety of species. Almost 20,000 animals of around 1,400 species live in the 33-hectare zoo. They include elephants, giraffes, gorillas, and Germany\u2019s only giant pandas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/223008684_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-77 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/223008684_1-300x196.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/223008684_1-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/223008684_1-768x501.jpg 768w, https:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/223008684_1-1024x668.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/gfwscouting.ca\/adventure\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/223008684_1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Both Riley and Lex discovered the wonders of Europa Park, which is an incredible theme park meant to give visitors the experience of the entire European continent in one place.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=roksCWXqaeI\">This is a short video<\/a> to give you an idea, but if you are in to amusement parks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/results?search_query=visit+europa+park\">spend some quality time here<\/a> for more details!\u00a0 Europa Park is located in Rust along the famous Reine River, and is directly on the way from Kandersteg to the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Lex took us up a mountain to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eagles-nest-tours.com\/\">Hitler&#8217;s Tea House,\u00a0Kehlsteinhaus<\/a> &#8211; also known as the Eagle&#8217;s Nest.\u00a0 To access the summit you need to use what was a secret cave into the base of the mountain and then ride an elevator INSIDE the mountain to the summit.\u00a0 At an altitude\u00a0of\u00a01,834m the Kehlsteinhaus offers a truly stunning view.<\/p>\n<p>Last stop on our German tour was to Frankfurt, a very popular tourist destination in Western Germany.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UQgcBiAztjs\">Here is a great video<\/a> that sums up the Frankfurt experience nicely \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 Frankfurt is right on the way to the Netherlands, so very convenient for any German pre-camp.<\/p>\n<p>Despite all the incredible things to do in Germany, by the end of the meeting the team was looking more towards a combined Switzerland\/Germany experience, whereas we would start our adventure in Kandersteg, Switzerland, and then have the option to leave early and take in some sights in Germany.\u00a0 The M\u00fcnich area, Europa Park, and Frankfurt are all accessible from Switzerland &#8220;on the way&#8221; to the Netherlands <em>(well\u00a0M\u00fcnich is not on the way, but it&#8217;s only 2-3hrs out of the way).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While thinking of this option, it occured to us that the Ireland, England and Lowlands teams could come up with a similar joined pre-camp on the West.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see how things go with Team England this weekend, but right now we are thinking it might be cool to offer two possible pre-camps &#8211; Italy\/Switzerland\/Germany to the Netherlands and Ireland\/UK\/France\/Belgium to the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Germany is MUCH bigger than Ireland or Switzerland, so even before the meeting our team really had their work cut out for them!\u00a0 How can we get the Germany experience in only a few short days on a limited budget?\u00a0 Well once again we had youth really step up to the challenge with a great presentation by Riley, and another one by Lex &amp; Scouter Erica.\u00a0 Armed with a detailed map of Germany and a map of the Europe Rail lines it was my job to figure out where everything is and how to work it in to our rail travel.\u00a0 All in all a busy night with a lot of exciting ideas.
